Is your student considering auditioning for the Wisconsin Singers?

Why Wisconsin Singers?

This opportunity has helped our son grow in many ways; as a student, as a person, and as a performer. Being involved with the Wisconsin Singers has been a wonderful opportunity for all of us.

I'm worried about my incoming freshman adjusting to college. Can being a member of Wisconsin Singers help with this?

Being a freshman in college can be very overwhelming for a 1st year student. Life is no longer as it once was. Important decisions have to be made on your own. My freshman daughter says that the Wisconsin Singers is the most positive thing she has in her college life right now.

So I would like to thank the Wisconsin Singers for making her feel welcomed and loved during this huge transition period. Being in the Wisconsin Singers is not just about being a member of a group or an organization; it is about being a member of a very warm and caring family. Thanks!

It was really nice having an instant family for my daughter when she got to Madison. It was great knowing she had people to show her the ropes right away. Although it is hard work, she loves the Singers!

Will my student miss any classes as a Wisconsin Singer while touring?

From our Wisconsin Singers 06-07 Handbook for parents:

Our students will be asked to miss classes occasionally throughout their year with the Singers due to our traveling schedule. It has been our experience in the past that UW professors are extremely receptive to a student's involvement in the Singers and we have never had a student penalized for missing class due to a Singers show. We require our students to approach their professors early in the semester with their Singers schedule, ask for permission to miss their class, and make their own arrangements with the professor to make up any work missed. Frankly, most professors are taken aback when a Singers students asks for “permission” to miss a class for a legitimate reason and are most willing to bend over backwards to accommodate any student who exhibits such a sense of responsibility.

Many of our students are on the Dean's list and have exceptional grades as a result of having to plan their work ahead. We will keep very close track of our students' grades and provide any means necessary to help them with their academic workload.

What expectations does the Singers program have regarding student behaviors while on tour?

From our Wisconsin Singers 06-07 Handbook for parents:

The Wisconsin Singers are constantly in the public eye and serve not only as official “Ambassadors of Goodwill” for the UW but as role models for aspiring high school and junior high musicians. For this reason, we require our students to follow a strict behavior and dress code while on tour with us. Our students are to be professionally dressed whenever on concert site and are to wear nametags we provide so that they can be identified as Singers. In addition, we do not tolerate any drug or alcohol use whenever we are on official Singers time (bus, travel, concert site, receptions).

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
